
There are many different types of media out there. We'll help you decide what types you want to use in your system. For all media players, try to stick with the same brand as your receiver whenever possible. This helps with controlling the devices, and also gives your system a nice look and coherency.

DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) - DVD adds drama to Home Theater because it features both great sound a great picture. All DVD players feature the latest Dolby Surround technology, called Dolby Digital 5.1. Some players are also compatible with other surround technologies, such as THX and DTS.

BD (Blu-ray Disc), is a high density optical disc format for the storage of digital media including high definition video. The name Blu-Ray Disc is derived form the blue-violet laser used to read and write this type of disc. Blu-ray is a dual layer disc and can store 25GB per layer. 50GB total capacity. Blu-ray disc players are backwards compatible with DVD and CD, the technology was created by Sony.

HD DVD - (High Definition DVD), is a high density optical disc format designed for the storage of data and high definition video. The HD DVD standard was jointly developed by Toshiba and Nec. HD DVD is dual layer and has a dual layer capacity of 30GB. All HD DVD players are backwards compatible with DVD and CD.

SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc), is read only optical audio disc format aimed at providing much higher fidelity digital audio reproduction than the compact disc. This was developed by Phillips Electronics

VCR (Video Cassette Recorder), - The traditional movie format. You'll probably want to get a VCR, if not to watch movies with, then at least to be able to tape TV shows or copy movies. Be sure to get a hi-fi Stereo VCR if you want to be able to hook it in to your system and hear surround sound.

CD (Compact Disc digital audio), - You'll probably want one of these to play your favorite tunes. Most DVD players can also play CDs. But you may want to purchase a CD changer to be able to load more than one CD at once.
